This week on the link loop: A cute sartorial grandpa, Salad goals and your best new habit !
Hello Hello ! After much faffing and jet lag, I'm back this week with some link loop goodies - over the next wee while I'll be changing some of the layout around here and branching out into a couple of related side projects - instead of winding down for the end of the year, I'm gearing up for the busiest and most exciting summer yet ! In the mean time, make sure you're following the Nearness Instagram, or get in touch if you have ideas, want to be interviewed or fancy having a go at writing your own guest segment here on the blog.
It's no secret that I have a soft spot for well dressed men and 86 year old Ali the Turkish Tailor is no exception. 'What Ali Wore' is a small photo project by Berlin based Australian Zoe Pawton who noticed him passing her work in the mornings, dressed to the nines. I got a bit lost scrolling through the archives of here tumblr but I can't help wondering... how big must his wardrobe be !
With wardrobes in mind, lovely Liv Purvis is a British blogger and podcaster that I've been following for a while over on instagram. I am in love with this little white boiler suit she profiled a while back - the obvious and natural progression from last seasons floaty jumpsuit trend. My darling bud Juliet Stimpson (of Percy's Vintage fame) came back from a buying trip to LA with the most enviable teal denim button up boiler suit, so I'm (of course) now on the hunt for my very own dream boiler suit. Ideally a floaty linen number for the hot summer that's on the way, and then a tough denim get up for the chillier transitional months.
In the meantime I'll be adding these options from WellMade, 2014 Miss Crabb and LF Markey to my 'dream-one-day-if-i'm-very-lucky' shopping cart somewhere over the rainbow.
Speaking of over the rainbows (yes that was my cool, calm, casual attempt at a segue there), I'm obsessed with Daniel Mercadante's exploration of light painting. Already a distinguished and well known film maker, his Rainbow Road project is one of the most captivating uses of long exposure. If you're not already, you should most definitely be following his work on instagram, checking out his other brilliant projects HERE and watching hie collaborative work with wife Katina HERE.
It would not be a link loop without some sort of lust worthy jewels, fit for the regal appendages of my sweet readers (If I flatter you will you end up buying me cool jewels?) - this weeks offering comes from Erica Peterson at STVDIO Brooklyn. She has a charming approach to jewellery making as a whole:
"Every item is made entirely by hand without the use of mold's or masters. Even though this isn't the quickest, or most efficient way to make jewellery, what it does is allow the customer to have confidence that every piece of jewellery they purchase from STVDIO is their own"
I don't know about you, but I love a good statement earring, and have my eyes firmly set on these divine gold wreath hoops - perfect for all those fancy dinner parties. The ones I'm expecting invites to after news travels of new desire to learn to cook like a real person.
Well known for bringing salads to pot luck dinner (read 'bag of spinach') I thought this year might be my time to up the ante and learn to make something a touch more sophisticated - enter Jenny Rosenstrach from Dinner: a love story. Avid foodie and list nerd like myself, Jenny shared this brilliant post about the 'Nine rules for salad'. From chopping veges to the sacred grain-to-salad-ratio, this is a must read for anyone venturing into the kitchen with veges on the mind.
keeping in theme with self made magic, I've been playing around with Calligraphr. The website allows you to create fonts using your own handwriting for free. Handy little tool for adding a personal touch to the many Christmas emails i'll be sending to friends and family round the world. Have a go and let me know what you think (or better yet tag #nearnesstoyou so we can see !).
Every so often (read: daily !), I get 'lost in the internet' - sometimes I fall down a hole into scary conspiracy theories, but every once in a while I stumble across wholesome little pockets of goodness like this video of butterflies drinking turtle tears. It's nice to be reminded once in a while that there a little bits of joy to find everywhere - what are some of the best heart warming videos you've stumbled across in your recent travels around the world wide web ?
Last but not least this week, with so many different projects on the go, I've ordered myself a 90 Day Habit Calendar. Designed for the multi-hyphen-go-getter, this nifty little product will hopefully keep me on track with maintaining this sweet little hobby blog !
What have you got on the horizon to look forward to ? How will you be rounding out your year ? With just a few months left, it's never to early to be looking ahead.
Til next time xoxo
