Link Loop #6

Garden envy, DIY dreams, New York City Tree's, Mountain movies and a little French food inspiration.

What have you been up to this long weekend ? I always feel a lot of pressure to do something momentous on Queens birthday weekend, especially considering it's the last public holiday til October (imagine an ugly crying gif here). This year, in keeping with my attempts to live a little slower, I planned nothing. No wild adventures, no three day projects - I haven't even been to a mall (yet). Pure unadulterated relaxation. And of course, right on cue I got a cold; It's not secret that stress and sickness go hand-in-hand so I'm taking it as a sign I might need a little more rest than I've been getting so far this year. Anyway, enough about me and my cold, let's dive into this weeks link list of 'stuff and things from the internet'...

Tumblr project turned print series from Peyton Fulford.

To begin this week, an oldie but a goodie. Peyton Fulford has long since graduated from their initial Tumblr success, but there's still something quite moving about 'Abandoned Love'. Like a little bridge between the anxious longing of youth and the very palpable, interrogating grief of loss; who hasn't thought to themselves (even just once) 'Do I still exist to you?'. 2015 is an eternity in internet time, but it looks like you can still purchase prints of some of the images for the very reasonable sum of $10usd HERE. When describing the work Fulford wasn't shy about comprehensively acknowledging influences:

‘Abandoned Love’ is a participatory photo series in which I had people from all over the world on Tumblr send me private thoughts, diary entries, text messages, etc to which I then created into banners and placed on abandoned buildings. This project was inspired by Miranda July and Harrell Fletcher’s Learning to Love You More and Klaudija Visockyte’s Please Don’t Leave Me series; Also I would like to credit Anna Ladd’s things i told the internet but didn’t tell my mom because it is similar to this project, so if you like ‘Abandoned Love’ then you should definitely check out those projects too.

I love the idea of working together with strangers to create something quietly beautiful. To catch some of Peyton's equally fascinating recent work you can follow their instagram HERE and follow their cool project promoting new artists HERE.

Next up, from the #work files, THIS tweet about 'Bosses we remember' really resonated with me. Teaching can be a really lonely profession, but I'm lucky to be supported by some phenomenal women (more on that later). Seriously though, Who wouldn't love to hear that their work matters ? Let's look for some ways this week that we can be good to the people around us.

I've watched this beautiful garden video about 20,000 times now. I love Pascal Brault's calming voice and obvious passion for all sorts of plants. The Chanel designer has impeccable taste, and director Toby Amies captures it all with sensuous detail.

From the 'don't snooze on this one' files, the latest offering from one of my all time favourite gals is a must follow for anyone who loves food. BUDD BITES is a delicious diary of all the places Maddy Budd eats. An answer to the eternal question: 'Where should we eat today?'

Also piquing my curiosity this week, THIS tip off about a potential new french skincare secret. usually an avid francophile when it comes to lotions and potions, I can't say the 'hot garbage' aroma palette sounds terribly appealing, but looks like her results warrant further investigation.

Mohair fringe throw from Alex & Corban Home [Gorgeous photo from their website]

If you caught up with the last Link Loop, you'll know I'm not coping well with the arrival of a very chilly spell here in Auckland. My latest plan is to fill my house with luxe throws and blankets so I'm never further than arms reach from something to snuggle up with. THIS throw from Alex & Corban is both beautiful and very reasonably priced for a super cozy Mohair blend - as if that wasn't sweet enough these guys have now teamed up with Laybuy, making lovely fancy homewares that little bit more accessible to those of us on a budget. No tricks or hidden extras, you receive your purchase straight away and simply split the cost into six suddenly-very-manageable payments. Alex & Corban are stocking so many beautiful things at the moment, I don't even know where to start.

With room updates and winter nesting on my mind, I've been frequenting my local Bunnings Warehouse at least once a week. I've been so often I'm now on first name terms with Roland in the handles and fixtures department. What I didn't know, is they have a whole series of actually-pretty-cool DIY tutorials on their website. Check out the Living Room Makeovers here.

Later this year I'm hoping to get back to New York, so I've been researching some of the awesome summer activities happening at the moment. The NYC Tree Map is a project documenting all the tree's in the Manhattan and Brooklyn cityscapes. You can learn facts about the tree, favourite them and even share them on social media ! What a cool interactive way to get people caring about city trees.

This little ditty about 'Parisian Fast Food' made me a) hungry for hot chicken b) hungry for cheese and c) jealous of her impeccable french inspired outfit. Looks like I'm just going to have to treat myself to THIS perfectly french market tote from Alex & Corban and pop along to the Cross Street Markets (conveniently on this coming week).

Later this week I'm looking forward to checking out some of the programme at the BANFF Film Festival which arrives for the Auckland leg of the tour. Hosted by The New Zealand Apline club, this festival brings together some of the very best short films and documentaries about mountain culture, sports and the environment. Whilst the book festival isn't making it's way to Auckland this time, it's well worth a look too.

Last up this week, I was obsessed with this song over the Summer, but only recently caught up with how insanely good the self-directed music video is. Check out the extra crazy making of video HERE.

Stay warm and dry out there ! Til next time xoxo
